Switchel Recipe: The Original Electrolyte Drink

What You Need

4 cups cold water
2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar with the mother
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup (Grade A Dark preferred)
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated
Juice of half a lemon
Pinch of fine sea salt
Step 1

Grate the fresh ginger on a microplane or the finest side of a box grater. You want about 1 tablespoon of pulpy ginger paste.

Step 2

Stir or shake vigorously until the maple syrup is fully dissolved, about 30 seconds.

Switchel is a colonial-era electrolyte drink made with apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, fresh ginger, lemon, and water. Ready in 10 minutes and costs about 50 cents per glass.
